The Namibia University of Science and Technology's Eenhana Satellite Campus held its first-ever graduation ceremony on Friday.

Seventy-three students graduated from various fields of study.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chancellor of the Namibia University of Science and Technology, Peter Katjavivi, says the presence of the higher institution in the Ohangwena Region is a dream come true for many.

"It is a dream that has been transformed into reality because it is real, and we are here to witness this occasion. Today's ceremony is not just a testament to academic achievement, it is a celebration of the resilience of dedicated efforts, innovation, and the indomitable spirit of the Namibian people. The will to strive for success."

Professor Katjavivi emphasised that the establishment of the NUST Eenhana Campus is a bold step forward in the institution's mission to decentralise higher education and extend its benefits to all corners of the country.

"This is just the beginning of an important step that we need to consolidate and make sure that it is well-established and rooted among our people. By bringing the university experience closer home to our various corners of our country, we are not only breaking down the geographical barriers but also nurturing local talent and empowering communities to chart their own path towards a brighter future."

The Minister of Higher Education, Technology, and Innovation, Itah Kandjii-Murangi, says the graduation does not only symbolise a significant milestone in the lives of the graduates but also the trajectory of the nation's general development and the transformative advancement of the Ohangwena Region in particular.

"Since 1990, the Government of the Republic of Namibia has gone to great lengths to ensure that quality education is expanded to different parts of our country, particularly the rural masses, and that it is well regulated through various national regulatory bodies. Congratulations to the class of 2023. May your dreams be boundless and your contributions to society and your country be profound. Humility is defined better by the quality of your service to others."

Gracing the occasion was the patron of the NUST-Eenhana Satellite Campus and former president, Dr. Hifikepunye Pohamba.

"A university is not just for the people from this community, a university is an institution. I hope to see students from neighbouring countries, particularly our northern border brothers and sisters. I am very hopeful and look forward to your continued commitment to the growth and further development of this campus."
