Residents of the Kehemu Informal Settlement in Rundu have called on the town council to consider improving the road infrastructure.

They say the bad roads are limiting their day-to-day activities and negatively affecting their businesses.

The residents claim that they have been facing this challenge for a while now.

They say at times they struggle to get taxi service as the drivers do not want to damage their cars.

The residents claim that they have been seeking assistance from the Rundu Town Council without a positive response.

Rundu Town Engineer Sakaria Shopati says the council has been exploring options and strategies to better the situation.

Shopati said after a successful engagement with the contractor, the street upgrade programme was implemented, with Phase 1 covering 12 roads in various locations for N$15.8 million.

The project started on 25 June this year and is currently at 75% complete.

The final completion date for this phase is scheduled for the 24th of next month.

Shopati says the priority list is long and costly; hence, the entire project could not be implemented due to a lack of funds.

He further appealed to the inhabitants of Rundu to pay their municipal bills to enable the council to finance development projects.
