The Ministry of Justice and Labour Relations has ordered Omeya Investment CC to pay its employees according to the National Minimum Wage.

The action by the ministry follows a protest led by the Namibia Security Workers Union, which claimed that the company was underpaying staff.

The union also alleged that around 50 workers were fired after raising complaints.

The ministry investigated and confirmed that Omeya Investment was paying outdated wages of N$8.75 per hour instead of the current rate of N$13.50 per hour for security officers, as required by the wage order that took effect on January 1, this year.

The company denied firing employees, saying their contracts had simply ended. The ministry advised affected workers to file cases with the labour commissioner if they feel unfairly dismissed.

It was also found that the company did not pay workers for overtime, Sunday work, and public holidays.

The ministry has ordered Omeya to pay all outstanding wages.

Minister Wise Immanuel said the government is committed to protecting workers' rights and will ensure full enforcement of the law.

Employers must meet all wage and labour law requirements, or the ministry will take action, he said.
