The Roads Authority (RA) Chief Executive Officer says he is satisfied with the progress made in phase one of the road rehabilitation and resurfacing project in Otjiwarongo.
Dr. Conrad Lutombi conducted an assessment of the various road sites where they are assisting the Otjiwarongo Municipality.
Under phase one of the road upgrades around town, the focus is on repairing potholes affecting routes such as Dr. Libertina Amadhila, Bahnhof, Kandara, Rikumbi Kandanga, Virmos Bar, Manuel Somseb, Simentao, West Street, and Otji Bricks streets.
"We have started with the rehabilitation of the nine roads, and I'm very happy with the progress, as you have seen. We have started now with the base of these roads. We are done with the base; now we are starting with the surfacing. We will surface more of these roads in the next two weeks. The construction period was supposed to be eight months, which is ending around 20 November, but we got assurance from the contractor that they will be able to deliver within six months, that is, around October - September," said Lutombi.
Under phase two of the project, Lutombi said 20 more roads will undergo similar facelifts.
"In fact, when we are done, we will be able to do about 20 roads within the local authority, plus our national, which is the one going to Outjo as well as the one passing through the town from Okahandja to Otavi. That will also be done in addition to the 20 roads, which will belong to the local authority. So we are quite happy with the progress."
Otjiwarongo Municipality Chief Executive Officer Mberipura Hifitikeko, on his part, said, "We are receiving positive feedback so far from the community. I think there is support from everybody, and we obviously indulge the community to induct and bear with us with the noise and so on, and we welcome the works that are being done. Otjiwarongo should hopefully be a different town by the end of the year."
The project is valued at over N$92 million.
