Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi says Namibia and India share a common history of shared values of dignity, freedom, and constitutional principles that uphold equality, liberty, and justice. In his address to Parliament this afternoon, Modi emphasised the longstanding relationship between the two countries dating back to Namibia's struggle for independence.
Modi expressed commitment to working with Namibia in achieving its developmental goals, such as Vision 2030 and the Harambee Prosperity Plan.
He also noted the importance of youth development, mentioning that over 1,700 Namibians have benefited from India's scholarships and capacity-building programs.
India's Prime Minister reaffirmed support for youth initiatives and the healthcare sector.
"DmHealth is also our area of priority in shared value. India is ready to supply Namibia with proper radiotherapy machines for cancer care. These machines in India have been deployed in 15 countries and helped nearly half a million patients in different countries with critical cancer care. We also invite Namibia to join our programme on access to equitable and quality medicines."
Speaker of the National Assembly, Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, emphasised the importance of strengthening parliamentary ties with India, noting that such relationships promote mutual learning and the exchange of best legislative practices.
"From committee structure to citizen engagement while promoting collaboration on global developmental priorities such as poverty eradication, gender equality, and climate action. It also builds capacity within parliamentary institutions through staff exchanges and digital transformation initiatives in the sharing of legislative resources, contributing to stronger people-to-people connections."
