The Swakopmund Municipal Council, in partnership with Langer Heinrich Uranium Mine, has launched the Youth Entrepreneurial Development Initiative (YEDI).
With a N$1 million investment, YEDI aims to empower young people by providing the tools and support to start and grow businesses.
Mayor Blasius !Goraseb said the initiative aligns local governance with the national agenda, by prioritising employment, entrepreneurship, and economic inclusion.
He explained that YEDI addresses the growing number of young people in Swakopmund seeking ways to improve their livelihoods amid high unemployment.
His office regularly receives young individuals looking for jobs, financial assistance for studies, or opportunities to start small businesses.
YEDI is a long-term investment in youth, not a welfare program, responding to the demand for sustainable opportunities, he added.
Applications are open from 11 July to 11 August 2025, and applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old and reside in the Swakopmund constituency.
