Africa’s disaster risk management requires a multi-sectoral approach and coordinated action across government to effectively reduce vulnerability and build long-term resilience.

It’s for this reason that SADC disaster risk experts and UN and GIZ agencies are hosting the INFORM Index for Risk Management regional workshop in Windhoek today.

The workshop is aimed at identifying ways to roll out the INFORM Index tools for assessing and monitoring disaster and humanitarian risks across SADC.

The INFORM index measures risks on three pillars: hazard and exposure, vulnerability and coping capacity, and the use of guided evidence-based planning and resource allocation.

For SADC, the INFORM Index’s goal is to enhance local risk mapping for high-risk communities and support the implementation of a SADC Regional Resilience Framework.
