Two Namibian films have been selected to feature in this year's European Film Festival.
Snear and The B2 Passage will be screened alongside nine European films at the 5th edition of the Namibia European Film Festival.
The festival runs from 3 September to 29 October.
The films will close the event, followed by a panel discussion on supporting the local film industry and promoting Namibia as a filming destination.
European Union's Deputy Head of Mission, Ian Dupont, said, "I would say the EU Film Festival is about more than just having a film night. It's about stories that connect us, that bridge cultures, and that remind us of our shared humanity. Namibia's problems are often also Europe's problems, and movies and cinema can really show us how we can learn from each other. Last year we welcomed over 2000 guests at the Sir Kinicor, and this year we want to ensure that even more people can enjoy our films."
The theme for this year is 'Opportunities for Youth' and aims to empower and create opportunities for young people.
The EU supports Kino Namibia, a Namibia Film Commission initiative that aims to empower young people through filmmaking.
It further brings back the cellphone video production workshop, which will take place in Windhoek this year after making rounds in the north, south and coastal towns.
Namibia Film Commission Media Officer Rebekka Malakia said, "As we look forward to the screenings and the conversations that this festival will bring, let's also celebrate the power of partnership and the belief that film has the ability to not only entertain but also to educate, inspire and unite."
"Therefore, we would like to further rally behind the AU Film Festival in efforts of providing our members and mainly the youth with opportunities, and hope that through platforms like these, we, or the youth rather, can be inspired to collaborate with like-minded filmmakers," said the vice chairperson of the Filmmakers Association of Namibia, Tjuna Daringo.
Film participating countries also shared their sentiments on the impactful films that tell stories with awareness.
The films will be showcased every Wednesday night and one Saturday at Ster-Kinekor Maerua Mall, with free entrance, with this year's edition featuring a children's film on the 4th October.
