Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare has launched the National School Rehabilitation Campaign at Mukuvi Primary School in the Kavango East Region.
The campaign by the Office of the Prime Minister will be rolled out across all the 14 regions, prioritising the renovation of classrooms and upgrading of sanitation facilities and healthcare facilities.
The initiative seeks to enhance the quality of healthcare and foster a conducive learning environment.
Dr. Ngurare explained that “We have then decided that through our office we will be going on a targeted intervention, specifically that we will come to a locality such as this, and we of course assess the problem as it is; we send a team here before to assess to see what it is, and then we say we will come and camp here. The idea is now for us to start the actual work.”
Ngurare and his team camped at school to oversee the project's commencement.
The programme will engage Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) trainees in minor repairs at schools and clinics nationwide, while community members will benefit from the food-for-work initiative.
“Here in Kavango East there is Rundu Vocational Training Centre (RVTC), which means a vocational training centre, which has the requisite expertise to rehabilitate this sanitation facility. Even to repair windows. Even to do painting. Even to do a number of vocation-related things, instead of us waiting for procurement of a certain amount,” the premier added.
Mukuvi Primary School caters for 137 learners, from grade one to seven.
The Prime Minister calls on the business community to meet the government halfway to improve the health and education facilities.
Ongudi Combined School in Okongo Constituency is next in line.
