The Lüderitz Waterfront Development project aims to transform Lüderitz from what was once considered an isolated town into a vibrant hub for tourism, culture, and education.

These were the words of Fluksman Samuehl, Chief Executive Officer of the Lüderitz Waterfront Development Company, during a recent status engagement.

He highlighted developments such as the Namibia Maritime Museum, the NUST Lüderitz Campus, Fitness House, the Conference Centre, and a waterfront guest house.

The waterfront project’s first phase, completed around 2002, delivered Harbour Square featuring restaurants, shops, offices, and flats.

Currently, phase two is underway, focusing on the transformation of the Old Power Station.

Although it was approved in 2008, it was fully realised around 2014, after funding delays.

Phases three and four plan to include a state-of-the-art beachfront hotel and a modern private hospital.

Additional proposals include sea view apartments, a shopping mall, and media broadcast facilities in partnership with the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation.

The Regional Governor of the ǁKaras Region, Dawid Gertze, urged both the private and public sectors to collaborate in continuing the town’s development.
