President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and her Sierra Leonean counterpart, Julius Maada Bio, have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the historic ties between Namibia and Sierra Leone, rooted in their shared struggle against colonialism.
The two leaders met at the United Nations headquarters in New York, where they are attending the General Assembly.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah recalled that many Namibians received education and training in Sierra Leone during the liberation struggle, alongside other forms of assistance provided by the West African nation.
President Bio equally expressed appreciation for Namibia's continued support of the African Union Committee of Ten (C-10) on UN Security Council reform, which Sierra Leone currently chairs.
Meanwhile, President Nandi-Ndaitwah thanked the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, for her encouragement and moral support as she assumed Namibia's leadership role.
The two leaders also met briefly at the UN headquarters, where they discussed matters of mutual concern between Namibia and Barbados.
Prime Minister Mottley also commended President Nandi-Ndaitwah for appointing women to senior decision-making positions, particularly noting Namibia's Cabinet, where 57% of portfolios are held by women.
