The Minister of Industrialisation, Mines, and Energy, Natangue Ithete, commended the Namibian Competition Commission's (NaCC's) role in promoting fair business practices and safeguarding consumer interests in Namibia.

Speaking at an engagement with the commission, the ministry underscored the commission's responsibility in formulating and advising on legal frameworks that stimulate economic growth, ensure transparent markets, and protect consumers.

"The NaCC's mandate is aligned with our national priorities as an enabler in the realisation of the National Development Plan 6 goals, particularly in fostering inclusive economic growth, enhancing productivity, and building flourishing businesses. As we position ourselves to fully benefit from the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), your role becomes even more critical. A strong and fair competition framework will allow Namibian businesses to compete effectively on the continental stage, unlocking opportunities for trade, investment, and job creation."

The commission's efforts, the ministry noted, are central not only to business entities but also to the overall well-being of Namibians. 

By promoting competition, the Commission creates an environment that encourages innovation, supports the growth of small and medium enterprises, and protects consumers from exploitation.

The Chairperson of the Commission, Penda Ithindi, also highlighted its critical role in strengthening Namibia's economic landscape, noting that fair competition remains a cornerstone for development and improved livelihoods.
