The Mariental Municipality has written off municipal debts amounting to over N$1.2 million owed by senior citizens.

The decision follows a council resolution taken at an ordinary meeting held in September. 

The council announced that all accounts belonging to senior citizens registered with the municipality were cleared.

The municipality stated that the debt relief coincides with the full rollout of prepaid water meters, which is scheduled to commence within the next two weeks.
