State Chief of Protocol, Leonard Iipumbu has been appointed as Namibia's Ambassador to Angola.

This was announced in a statement issued by the Presidency on Friday.

It said Ambassador Iipumbu, as a seasoned diplomat and public servant, brings more than 30 years of experience to international relations.

He previously served as Namibia 's Ambassador to the USA with concurrent accreditation to Brazil, Canada and Mexico as well as to France, Italy, Portugal and Spain.

He was also Namibia' s permanent delegate to Unesco in France.

The Presidency says Ambassador Iipumbu's appointment reaffirms the country's commitment to strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, energy, infrastructure and regional security.

"As Ambassador to Angola, Iipumbu will play a crucial role in deepening the historical bonds of friendship and solidarity between Namibia and Angola, nations united by shared history, culture and sacrifice '' the statement reads. 

Ambassador Iipumbu, a former PLAN combatant and Swapo's Chief Representative to several countries, holds a Master's Degree in International Services and a Bachelor's Degree in Economics and Financial Management.
