The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) office in the Kavango West Region has been preparing its teams. This week, the region held a two-day refresher course for election officials, following the main training sessions that took place from November 7 to 16.
The two-day refresher course started on Friday and ended on Saturday.
Returning officer Pankratius Kawana said the refresher course is crucial, as the electoral body is expected to deliver uncompromised service.
"Actually, this is part of the preparations for the region. We are close to the election, and our aim now is to ensure that everything is in the pipeline. People are now to be consolidated; as they are to go in the field, they are more than ready to go and execute what they can do best."
Presiding officers, verification teams, and technicians participated in the refresher course, which took place at the Kahenge Tribal Office.
The Kavango West region recruited 908 officials, 14 technicians and 22 verifiers.
"In Mpungu, we have a total of 39 teams with 234 officials. Then we have Kapako, which has 24 teams with 144 officials. In Tondoro, there are 24 teams and 144 officials. Then we have Ncuncuni, which has 11 teams and 60 officials; I believe it is the smallest constituency. Additionally, we have Ncamagoro with 18 teams and 108 officials. Musese has 16 teams and 96 officials. Nkurenkuru, known as the hotspot of the region, has 18 teams and 122 officials."
Of the 18 teams in Nkurenkuru, 14 will cater for local authority elections and four teams for regional council elections.
Kawana said the region is prepared to deliver what is expected of them.
The deployment of officials for the special voting will take place today.
