The police commander for the Kavango East Region is Commissioner Andreas Haingura.
"It is all of us's responsibility to make sure that we are safe. What I am saying is let us work together, community and law enforcement, so that we make sure that our region is safe. We make sure that our visitors who are coming to enjoy their Christmas and New Year in our region are provided with a safe environment. Drivers let us make sure that we drive safely. We should not use alcohol when we are undertaking journeys, and we should not use cars for speeding to show our muscles or our engines. Let us make sure that safety comes first."
The regional commander calls on the public to practise caution and avoid moving in dark places alone.
Commissioner Haingura encouraged the public to have the emergency number as well as the contact numbers of the police.
The Governor of Kavango East Region, Hamunyera Hambyuka, appreciated police officers for their dedication throughout the year and encouraged them to continue with their work diligently during the festive season.
"Allow me to express profound gratitude to our dedicated police officers and all partner agencies, including community policing groups; the responsibility they bear during this period is immense. While many will be celebrating with their families, you will be on duty often in challenging conditions to ensure that the rest of us can enjoy the festive season in peace. We honour your service, respect your sacrifice and stand firm behind you."
Governor Hambyuka calls for peaceful celebrations during the festival.
