Namibia recorded a violent and tragic weekend with multiple murders, fatal road crashes and suicides reported across several regions between Friday and Sunday.

Police confirmed that more than 10 people lost their lives in separate incidents, while several suspects have been arrested as investigations continue nationwide.

Among the most disturbing cases, a 2-year-old toddler was allegedly strangled to death at Ohalumbele village in the Onesi Constituency of the Omusati Region after being taken from a sleeping room during the early hours of Friday morning.

A 31-year-old woman is currently detained for the crime.

In a separate murder case in the Kavango West Region, a 39-year-old woman died after being assaulted with an unknown object at Kahenge village.

Police say her body was later dragged into nearby shrubs.

A 22-year-old man, believed to be the last person seen with the victim, is also being questioned.

Road accidents claimed several lives over the weekend.

Four people died in a car accident along the Omaruru-Karibib road, following a collision with a truck.

The accident occurred about 20 km from Karibib towards Omaruru.

According to the police report, it is alleged that a white Freightliner truck which was travelling from Karibib towards Omaruru made a sudden U-turn, which resulted in a sedan with six occupants colliding into it.

The sedan's 49-year-old male driver was killed on the spot, alongside a 73-year-old woman who was a passenger in the vehicle.

Two women aged 53 and 66 passed on at Omaruru State Hospital, while two other passengers are admitted with severe injuries in a critical condition.

The driver of the truck, who was the only occupant, escaped the accident without any injuries.

Another fatal head-on collision between a Toyota Hilux and a Ford Ranger near Okongo left one driver dead, while the suspected drunk driver was arrested.

A pedestrian died instantly after being struck by a vehicle driven by an unlicensed driver along the Outapi-Okalongo road in the Omusati Region.

In a separate incident near Karasburg, a pedestrian was fatally struck by a truck while crossing the B3 road early Sunday morning.

In the capital in Wanaheda, a man was shot at a bar following an argument and remains in critical condition.

The suspect has been arrested and the firearm confiscated.

Drug-related arrests were made in Windhoek after suspects were found in possession of cannabis valued at more than eighteen thousand dollars combined.

Authorities also arrested a teacher near Oshakati for allegedly attempting to sell elephant tusks without a permit.

In addition, housebreakers in Brakwater stole firearms and household items worth over sixty-two thousand dollars, while stock theft cases were reported in Oshakati after cattle were slaughtered in grazing fields.
