The Tsumkwe Constituency Councillor, Petrus Mutji, has called on his constituents to embrace independence.
Mutji, in his message, said the electorate should be grateful for the sacrifices their forefathers have made.
He says the country is free because of those who fought for liberation and reminded all that without their bravery, the country would still be ruled by oppressors to date.
"Our elders have fought for the country, you know, to free it, to liberate us from oppression, from apartheid, so this is good news to us. You know, back in the day, our parents used to tell us, 'Past six, you are actually not allowed to move around,' but now look at us; we are free. The country is stable; the country is liberated; there is harmony in our country because of independence, because of our forefathers who fought for the country."
Mutji commended the government's decision to allow every region to simultaneously host the Independence Day celebrations.
He said this change allows his community to fully participate in this year's event, which will be held at Otjiwarongo.
"We are fortunate enough that independence was distributed; it was given to the regions to host rather than just one specific place where everybody has to go. That's why I am saying the 8th administrations are actually thinking broader rather than narrower, you understand, which is actually good because now it can benefit all the people."
Youth activist Paulus Ndara says independence was a collective fight, with an aim for future generations to have a better life.
"If you really study the concept of independence, it will tell you that no, this is something; it is a collective fight that people had committed themselves to to ensure that the future generation enjoys all sorts of life or, rather, in order for them to live in harmony with one another. Out.
Traditional leaders from Tsumkwe, Gam, and Matako, with 30 delegates, will be marking the independence day at Otjiwarongo.
The rest of the residents will remain in the constituency with a line-up of soccer matches and other fun activities.
