Strictly Local Namibia has created a platform for artists aimed at restoring live performance culture and building a sustainable ecosystem for the creative industry.
The first-of-its-kind Strictly Local Namibia Music and Entertainment Live show is designed to celebrate and promote Namibian entertainers. Each month, the show will feature an “Entertainer of the Month,” whose brand, entertainment catalogue, and story will be amplified across radio and television platforms.
PR & Communication Specialist Che Ulenga provided insight into the local production.
“You travel around the world, but you don’t hear Damara Fancho. Here, you hear it locally, yet we constantly hear South African songs and even Chinese songs. What we are trying to do is bring it back home—that’s why we call it Strictly Local. We are also careful with our language, because ‘local’ can sometimes sound limiting. This is Strictly Local Namibia because we are proud of who we are—our heritage and our people. That is what we are trying to reform, reignite, reinvent, and recreate from scratch.”
The first live show, scheduled to take place this Friday, will feature Namibia’s dynamic and influential female artist, Sally Boss Madam, performing alongside a full band. Tickets for the show are available on Webtickets.
Sally Boss Madam is optimistic about the initiative.
“A lot of times, we don’t have the right platforms, and I think this is going to be a different one. Instead of seeing artists from a distance on big stages, this experience will be more intimate. I’m very excited about that because I rarely get the opportunity to interact with my fans—I prefer to call them friends. I believe this platform will definitely grow, especially because Namibians love to support local artists.”
The initiative, led by United Pay Point in partnership with media partners Namibian Broadcasting Corporation and Radio Energy, will be packaged and broadcast on NBC 1 and NBC 2.
