Members of parliament raise concerns about poor road conditions, questioning how the Ministry of Works and Transport will address these issues.
They raised this during the debate of the ministry's budget allocation.
" We have observed that the peace from Road Fund Grootfontein to "Rundu" and from "Divundu" to "Kongola" are in the same condition with the one that you are attending to. I just wanted to know how you are going to navigate that with these limited resources allocated to your Ministry for this vote." Said Swapo MP Sebastiaan Karupu
Nelson Kulungula of IPC wanted an update on the R14 road.
"On the road of R14, Walvis Bay to Malta, I have spoken about that last year also. How far are you with this? Is there any traction there? And in the same vein I would also want to perhaps also remind you of what you said last year. That you have found a method that will expedite roads project," he asked.
Also joining the debate was Swapo Secretary General, Sophia Shaningwa.
"The upgrading of the Sandy Onesi Epelela Road to low-sealed bitumen road has long been overdue. Requests for the upgrading of this road dates back two years after independence," she said.
PDM leader McHenry Venaani questioned the conditions of some roads across the country, while Immanuel Nashinge of IPC raised concern on the quality of bridges.
"How many professional engineers do we have as a country with experience in bridges. I am asking because I have seen, for example, from here to the airport, I have seen two bridges that are having scary cracks" he said.
The Minister of Works and Transport, Veikko Nekundi says road projects are underway.
"We discussed the issue of the road. The contractor is on site, the total budget for that road is N$276 million," he said.
