The Swakopmund Constituency Development Fund has awarded machinery to boost twelve small businesses in the coastal town.
The handover of equipment, including sewing, printing, and washing machines, aims to empower local entrepreneurs and stimulate economic growth.
Over $134,000 was allocated, with most of the beneficiaries being women-led small and medium enterprises.
Swakopmund Constituency Councillor Victor Maswahu said, "This initiative is not merely about the distribution of equipment; it is about equipping our people with the tools they need to actively participate in the economy, build sustainable livelihoods, and contribute meaningfully to the growth of Swakopmund."
The programme is part of an effort to tackle unemployment and support entrepreneurship at the grassroots level.
Beneficiaries have been encouraged to use the equipment responsibly to grow their businesses and create jobs.
"I encourage you to utilise these resources effectively – remain disciplined, innovative, and committed to your goals. Let your enterprises not only sustain you but also become sources of employment and inspiration for others," said Maswahu.
One of the beneficiaries, Paulina ||Gaes said, "This opportunity that I got will ensure that I continue my business, and I will not leave this office because I will continue knocking and asking for help. This machine is a small one, and I still need a bigger one. There must be two, so I will always make a turn to get a second one. Thank you very much."
The constituency office has promised to create similar initiatives to build a stronger and more inclusive local economy.
