Excitement is building up in the Omaheke Region as Gobabis prepares to host the Miss Namibia finale.

Residents and local businesses are eager to showcase the region's culture, talent and hospitality on a national stage.

The event is expected to bring together visitors from across the country while also creating an opportunity for the region to promote its tourism potential, local enterprises and rich cultural heritage.

In an interview with NBC News, Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate shared what hosting the event means for the region.

Nganate stated the event creates a platform to highlight the region's contribution to the country's history and heritage.

"Of the many battles that have taken place between the Ovambanderu and the Namas people around Gobabis, those battles have not been recorded, or if they are recorded, they are not told, and that is the part that we want to, through Miss Namibia, tell the world: that yes, Gobabis was the gateway into the fight of the liberation."

The finale is also being viewed as a valuable opportunity to shine a spotlight on the creative talent that exists within the Omaheke Region.

"It is bringing awareness of the talents that are here in the region, and I hope that through all these activities that will take place, more and more talented young people will come forth and exhibit their talent and make the world know that people in Omaheke do sing, they do dance, they do have artistic abilities and so on, so basically it is a window of opportunity."

The governor also spoke about future plans and hopes for the region, highlighting a vision of broader impact and inclusive growth.

"We have big plans for this region; we do not only want to do subsistence farming and subsistence activities, we want to scale up and make them big, and we are about to make many of these things that we have been talking about big, and we are about to make an impact not only in Gobabis, not only in Omaheke, but an impact in the whole country and beyond; that's our dream."
