President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has urged newly graduated police cadets to reject corruption, bribery and abuse of public office as they begin their careers.

The president's speech was read by Home Affairs Minister Lucia Iipumbu during the graduation ceremony of 1380 police recruits held at Oshakati Independence Stadium in the Oshana region.

The president said personal sacrifice in service to the people must go hand in hand with integrity, adding that discipline and professionalism must remain central to officers' conduct both on and off duty.

She further encouraged the recruits to remain prepared for any eventualities and to commit themselves to continuous learning and professional development throughout their policing careers.

"Crime itself is evolving rapidly. Criminal networks are becoming more sophisticated, technologically advanced, and adaptable to changing times. As law enforcement officers, you too must evolve with the times. You must remain informed, alert, and prepared to confront emerging threats such as cybercrime, financial crimes, trafficking, and other modern forms of criminality."

Acting Inspector General of the Namibian Police, Major General Anne-Marie Nainda, has urged newly graduated police recruits to remain loyal to the Constitution and uphold public confidence in the law as they assume duty.

Addressing the recruits, Nainda said assurance, confidence and hope should remain paramount when responding to the needs of the public.

She further cautioned the graduates against inappropriate conduct both in public and on social media, stressing that police officers are regarded as being on duty 24 hours a day.

"I would like to state that you will face difficult situations. You will be tested under pressure. You will encounter temptations, criticisms, and danger. In those moments remember your oath: remain professional when provoked and remain disciplined when challenged. Remain lawful when exercising authority. Remain loyal to the constitution and the republic of Namibia."

Oshana Governor Hofni Iipinge called on the graduates to combat crime and enforce the law at all times.

"As you step forward in this critical role, remember that the uniform you wear is a symbol of trust and accountability. The communities you serve look to you not only for protection but also for fairness, compassion and leadership."

The second graduation ceremony will be held in Gobabis next month.
