Gabriel Taapopi Secondary School has launched its annual tournament ahead of this weekend's competition, while raising funds to support the event.

The ALV Consulting Engineers Gabriel Taapopi Tournament is the official name of the event, reflecting the continued sponsorship of ALV Consulting Engineers in partnership with Kashipu Investment CC.

At the launch, the school raised N$33,000 through pledges from individuals, teachers and supporters towards the tournament.

Now in its 27th edition, the tournament is expected to attract more than 40 schools from the northern regions, competing in boys' and girls' football, netball, volleyball, basketball and chess.

Principal Sakaria Eelu explained the importance of hosting a formal launch this year and the significance of the tournament's new name.

In his remarks, NSSU Oshana Chairman Nathaniel Hafuto thanked learners for their participation in previous tournaments and expressed appreciation to sponsors for supporting the event.

More than N$40,000 in prize money will be awarded across individual and team categories.

The tournament will take place from 12 to 14 June 2026.
