Employees of Furnmart and Home Corp Namibia on Tuesday today handed over a formal petition to management.

They have been in a wage dispute that has been deadlocked since August last year.

Dewald Ludeka, general manager at Furnmart Namibia, who received the petition, states that the company acknowledges the petition.

He added that they commit to finding a solution as soon as possible and he will bring it to the attention of senior management.

The petition states that negotiations between Metal and Allied Namibian Workers Union (MANWU) and management failed to reach agreement on salary increments and the introduction of a housing allowance.

The petition cites zero transport allowance despite taxi fares rising 11.5% in May 2026 and zero housing allowance despite escalating rent, especially in urban areas.

Most employees also say they cannot afford the company's medical aid scheme.

Furnmart & Home Corp is described in the petition as a profitable enterprise operating across Botswana, South Africa, Zambia and Namibia.

Sales staff at Furnmart Namibia face a minimum N$100,000 monthly sales target, while Home Corp staff must meet N$300,000. Employees who miss targets risk demotion or disciplinary action.

MANWU argues the adjustments are needed to preserve living standards, reduce turnover, and improve productivity.
