A Mexican Air Force mission was sent to Venezuela after two powerful earthquakes caused severe damage and left multiple victims across the South American country.

Footage shows aircraft departing from a military base in the State of Mexico, carrying rescue teams, medical assistance and humanitarian aid.

According to the reports, Mexico said 250 members of the Army, the Air Force and the National Guard were deployed, along with specialist equipment for search and rescue operations.

The aid package includes medical staff, emergency tools, medical supplies, canine units and equipment to locate people trapped under rubble.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said the deployment followed a request for support from Venezuelan authorities, with Mexico sending teams to reinforce rescue work and medical care in the hardest-hit areas.

The Mexican contingent joins international emergency teams already being mobilised for Venezuela, where rescuers are still working through collapsed buildings and damaged communities.

The earthquakes, measured at magnitude 7.2 and 7.5, struck northern Venezuela on Wednesday, with La Guaira and Caracas among the areas worst affected.

International media reported around 235 people dead and more than 4,300 injured, with rescue operations still under way.
