Namibia is calling for an authentic and lasting ceasefire as the lethal Israeli strikes in Gaza persist without interruption. 

Two days ago, Al Jazeera reported that an Israeli drone strike in southern Gaza had killed at least one Palestinian child and injured several others.

The latest attack comes just a day after the UN released a report pointing to evidence of Israel's deliberate targeting of Palestinian children in both Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

Speaking at a meeting of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People at the United Nations headquarters in New York, Namibia's Deputy Permanent Representative pointed out that the Palestinian people have endured tremendous hardship for more than seven decades. 

Avshalom Nghifitikeko reiterated Namibia's unequivocal support for a two-state solution, noting it is a matter of justice and not a matter of political convenience. 

The meeting was chaired by Namibia's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Penda Naanda.

"Today, Gaza stands as a stark indictment of the international community's failure. The scale of violence and destruction, the staggering civilian casualties, and the obstruction of humanitarian assistance constitute a humanitarian catastrophe that should shock the conscience of humanity. Namibia, therefore, demands a genuine and sustained ceasefire as Israeli deadly strikes in Gaza continue unabated. We demand the full implementation of relevant Security Council resolutions and unhindered humanitarian access."

The Namibian diplomat added that the meeting came at a moment of profound crisis in the Middle East as the region is engulfed by escalating cycles of violence and unprecedented humanitarian suffering, especially in Palestine.
