The Ebenezer Royal Primary School, a private school at Omuthiya, was closed down after seven counts of alleged rape involving minors at its hostel. 

The reports surfaced after one of the minors opened up to her teachers about the acts last Wednesday.

Officials from the Education and Gender ministries held a meeting with parents, where they were informed to remove the learners and place them at state schools close to their homes.

The former school administrator, 42-year-old Frans Johannes, made his first appearance in the Omuthiya Magistrates' Court on Monday on charges of seven counts of rape.

He is accused of allegedly raping minors aged between 5 to 10 on different occasions, some on several intervals at the school hostel, where his wife is employed as a matron.

Johannes was remanded in custody after bail was objected to, and the matter was postponed to 12 October for further investigation.

Oshikoto Education Director Hilma Nuunyango-George said the school is not registered with the Ministry of Education and that it has been operating illegally since 2022 after failing to meet the required criteria of obtaining a registration certificate.

Nuunyango-George cautioned parents to first verify whether schools are operating legally before enrolling their children.

"I have dispatched a team of officials to find facts, offering pre-grade to grade four. What we have done is issued a directive for the school to stop operating. We also consulted the victims' parents so the learners can be removed from this school to be registered at a state school. Parents, please always ask for a registration certificate before enrolling your children."
Oshikoto Police Commander Ndafudha Iifo confirmed that parents of the victims have opened cases.

Preliminary police investigations revealed that the incidents occurred between 2025 and 2026.
The school has 71 learners.
