The Ministry of International Relations and Trade has hosted its Annual Diplomatic Briefing, reaffirming Namibia's commitment to multilateralism, constructive international cooperation, and strengthening of partnerships with the international community.
The event provided an opportunity for the country to brief the global community on developments in the trade agenda and bilateral and multilateral engagements, as well as Namibia's perspective on regional and global issues.
Minister of International Relations and Trade, Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, said that over the past year, much has transpired that continues to impact Namibia's foreign policy priorities and engagement with the international community.
She emphasised that Namibia is looking forward to further engaging with international governments through official visits, joint commissions of cooperation, political and diplomatic consultations, and business forums to continue strengthening bilateral partnerships and reviewing progress in the implementation of commitments.
"Namibia's engagements during the first half of 2026 have advanced our national interest while contributing to regional integration, continental solidarity, and global cooperation in pursuit of peace, sustainable development, and collective responses to shared challenges. Throughout these engagements, Namibia has remained guided by our Constitution, the African Union Constitutive Act, and the principles of the Charter of the United Nations.”
The Minister also reaffirmed Namibia's commitment to contributing to the development of the SADC Common Foreign Policy framework.
“Namibia is also contributing to the development of an SADC Common Foreign Policy Framework aimed at advancing a coordinated regional voice on the international stage, keeping with the theme of peace and reaffirming our commitment to strengthening political stability, peace and security, democracy, and good governance across the region.”
Speaking on behalf of the foreign diplomats, Ambassador of the Republic of Congo, Lauria Nguele-Makouelet, commended the Namibian government for strengthening global cooperation and promoting stronger international partnerships.
"The diplomatic corps wishes to congratulate you on the way you have conducted bilateral and multilateral relations with your various partners. Congratulations, you have honored your commitment to reviving cooperation that has been on hold with several countries and organisations. The diplomatic corps hopes that this momentum will continue for the rest of this year.”
