The High Commissioner of Namibia to Botswana, Elizabeth Naukongo Kakukuru, on Friday rallied the members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Botswana to elevate the visibility of both countries on the global stage.

In her address at the diplomatic corps briefing session on Discover Namibia—a premier tourism destination held in Gaborone, Kakukuru said the elevation will boost tourism and enhance trade opportunities for both Namibia and Botswana.

Kakukuru highlighted that many opportunities exist for both countries to collaborate in developing regional tourism circuits and cross-border travel experiences.

“As members of the diplomatic corps, you can play a pivotal role in elevating both Botswana's and Namibia's visibility and appeal as preferred tourism destinations in southern Africa through your personal experiences by acting as ambassadors of experience, facilitators of partnerships, and advocates of our unique value proposition.”

She said Namibia and Botswana can develop integrated regional tourism routes that combine the complementary attractions of both countries since Botswana offers internationally recognised wildlife and wilderness experiences, including the Okavango Delta and Chobe National Park, while Namibia offers distinctive desert, coastal, cultural, and conservation experiences.

The Head of Mission at the Ukrainian embassy in Botswana, Anastacia Sheremet, noted that she will recommend relatives and friends to visit Namibia because it is wholesome when it comes to tourism.

“Namibia is such a versatile country where you have a lot within the same borders. As said, you can go on a safari and see wildlife, or you can go to Swakopmund and enjoy the coast and interesting German architecture. You can also go to the pink lakes, which is impressive. And you come back home forever recharged.”

Beautiful scenaries in Namibia and Botswana can be packaged into joint itineraries that allow visitors to experience both countries during one trip.
