The United Democratic Front Party hosted its Khomas Women's Council Elective conference today.

The women's council will elect a new leadership and deliberate on issues and the party's structure.

The Secretary General of the UDF Women's Council, Hannali Mukuta, emphasised that women deserve a meaningful voice in shaping the future of the nation.

She said women will not achieve progress by being on the sidelines but through courageous efforts.

Mukuta further stated that women are not merely capable of leading families but also communities and political structures.

“Women are leaders because they are capable, visionaries, resilient, and understand the everyday struggle of our families, communities and our country.”

The Vice President of the United Democratic Front, Nico Somaeb, urged women to expand their participation, strengthen their presence, ensure their voices are heard and be more involved within the structures of the party.

“Take charge, elect yourself and empower yourself. For the past years, we have shown you how to lead, and by now, I’m sure women have learnt a lot about leadership. They are here to follow the examples that have been set. Take charge of the body. Don’t sit back. Don’t be regarded as tea and coffee makers or as people who only prepare venues. It is time for that to change. Let us prepare the venues for you. Let us prepare the tea and coffee for you so that you can lead. And that is also a testimony that, for the first time in our history, our country has been led by a woman president.”

Somaeb added that the conference will encourage more women to be involved in leadership roles and shape the future of the country.
