The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform has announced that Namibia recorded a bumper harvest this year, with the harvesting of crops still underway.
 
The Acting Executive Director Petrus Nangolo stated that the Ministry now focused on ensuring that the harvest is not wasted as some communal farmers struggle to find a market for their grain.
 
He highlighted that the Ministry is also preparing for the upcoming crop season by serving tractors and strengthening agricultural support services across the regions.
 
"There are 62 tractors that are currently standing there, and we are servicing them. We are moving to the region. There are different mobile teams, so we just make sure that we are ready to provide these essential services for our people."
 
The Ministry is further working to protect Namibia's livestock sector from Foot and Mouth Disease with disinfection measures already introduced at all entry points and restrictions on livestock products from affected areas.

“Every cloven-hoofed animal can have this kind of disease, and we are saying that products that are coming from such categories of animals cannot be here. When we are speaking about the restriction, yes, it is in order, but we are also asking for the cooperation of every Namibian to make sure that we do not, try to smuggle them into Namibia, including by crossing at illegal, undesignated areas. We are asking people not to come from those areas without passing through a disinfection process, or to bring in animals.”
Nangolo added that public cooperation is essential to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease into Namibia.
