KEETMANSHOOP TRANSPORTERS KEEP FARES STEADY DESPITE FUEL HIKES

Keetmanshoop transport operators, mainly those operating mini-buses, have decided to keep fares unchanged despite rising fuel prices in a bid to retain customers.

The operators say the industry has become overly competitive, as smaller seven-seater vehicles at times prove more popular.

MOST NKURENKURU TAXI OPERATORS UNLICENSED

The bulk of taxi operators in Nkurenkuru are unlicensed, with only four operating legally. 

This information was revealed during a meeting held by the Namibia Public Passenger Transport Association (NPPTA) with transport operators.

TAXI, BUS FARES TO INCREASE BY 15 PERCENT

Following transport operators’ concerns, the government has approved a 15 percent increase in taxi and bus fares, effective 18 May.


A one-way taxi fare will be N$15, and N$30 to any place without a taxi rank.
