The Walvis Bay Municipality has allocated approximately 2,500 plots to different housing schemes in the town.

At Outapi in the Omusati Region, officials held a handover ceremony for certificates of landhold titles under the Flexible Land Tenure system, where over 200 project beneficiaries from Outapi received their certificates.

The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, says the ministry is yet to establish a formula on how funds are distributed to local authorities, which will be done by the next financial year.

The Standing Committee on Urban and Rural Development and Land Reform has commended the Aroab Village Council in the ||Kharas Region for establishing a reception area to address uncontrolled informal settlements in and around the town.

The "special treatment" of land squatters over residents on the waiting list for land at Walvis Bay has sparked allegations of discrimination.

Political leaders in the harbour town have called on the squatters to register their names and join the long list in the municipality.
