Employees of Choppies Namibia at Swakopmund petitioned management, expressing dissatisfaction with "meagre earnings over the years and unfair labour practices".

Workers say N$8 per hour, which amounts to about N$1,500 per month, is insufficient and unable to meet their basic needs.

The country's labour laws continue to exclude the cultural and creative industries (CCIs), depriving these workers of the same protections and benefits as other sectors.

Fourth-year law students from the University of Namibia (UNAM) have partnered with the Namibian Revolutionary Transport and Manufacturing Union (NARETU) to offer training to shop stewards on how to better represent workers in a changing working environment.
