Africa is not relenting in rewriting how the world sees its history, its people and its place in the world.

This year, the continent took two major battles to the United Nations – slavery and the distortion of Africa's true size on world maps.

The United Nations General Assembly has passed a resolution recognising slavery as one of the gravest crimes against humanity.

This comes after Ghana’s President, John Mahama, proposed the resolution at the Assembly, seeking to declare the transatlantic slave trade as the gravest crime against humanity.

Namibia has reiterated its support for reparatory justice for the historical injustices of slavery and colonialism.
