Namibia presented with 2021 Kofi Annan Road Safety Award

Namibia has been presented with the 2021 Kofi Annan Road Safety Award, in recognition of the country’s trailblazing leadership in the ratification of the continental Road Safety Charter. The award is named after the late United Nations SG Kofi Annan in recognition of his contribution to the area of road safety, raising awareness about road safety and motivating key stakeholders, governments, private sectors and civil organizations to develop and implement innovations to save lives on African roads. This type of recognition for Namibia on the international level shows that road safety in Namibia has evolved over the past 15 years. This evolution is notable in terms of the development strategies, alignment and adoption of international standards which supported this growth trajectory within the sub-sector. The conferment and receipt of the awards serve as further impetus for all road safety stakeholders to implement the provisions and aspirations of the charter.
