Tribalistic slurs, when they rear their ugly heads, tend to create disharmony in a population.

Recent utterances made on social media platforms and in the public sphere in Namibia have caused a stir.

In the background of Easter, nbc News spoke to spiritual leaders on this rather serious cause of concern.

Reverend Timotheus Mutambo of the BGK Ebenezer AME Church in Windhoek reminded Namibians that Easter is a reminder of the love that Jesus shared.

"Jesus had to endure betrayal and denial; he was mocked and humiliated; things were said to him that was not necessarily true."

He urged Namibians to have a forgiving heart.

"People may not say good things about us, but we must learn from Jesus to forgive. Beloved, let's love one another. Let's unite as Namibians."

Also adding his voice to this matter is Paulinum Theological Seminary's Rector, Professor Paul John Isaak.

Professor Isaak said that as Christians and human beings, we all adhere to the fundamentals that people were all created in the image of God.

He urged Namibians to reject tribalism in its totality.

The Paulinum Rector stressed that citizens should stand together and adhere to the principle of 'One Namibia, One Nation'.
