Rundu-Urban Councillor Victoria Kauma has said that there has been significant development in Rundu due to its fast-growing population.
Speaking at the belated independence celebration recently at Rundu, Kauma assured the residents that electrification in all suburbs is one of her top priorities.
"Rundu is very dark. We have to confirm that. When we say it is dark, it needs to be electrified in all suburbs. Therefore, the community of Rundu, as your leader and councillor, together with the local authority of Rundu town and also with Nored, we are intending to engage with each other so that we see how we can work hard for this town to be electrified."
Kauma called on the local authority to speed up the process of identifying and allocating land where the new sports facility will be developed.
This follows directives from the central government through the governor's office to construct new sports facilities in all six constituencies in the Kavango East Region.
"In Kavango East, we have already got instructions from our governor to say, in Rundu, we should also identify this place. Not to maintain this sport facility, but we should come up with a new land to develop this sports facility, and this is going to be a standard sports facility which will be in Rundu. Currently as we speak, the other five constituencies have already procured land where they will build."
Progress made under Kauma's leadership over the past five years includes the construction of schools, the drilling of boreholes, and new road infrastructure developments in areas such as Sauyemwa, Tumweneni, Sigururu, Ndama, and Tuhingireni.
Kauma further revealed that soon the Ministry of Health and Social Services will construct a new district referral hospital in Rundu.
