In preparation for the second edition of the San Cultural Festival, the organisers are engaging various key stakeholders at Otjiwarongo to ensure the successful hosting of the event.
Culture is the backbone of any given society, hence the importance of preserving it.
Due to the national elections, the San Culture Festival could not take place last year, but the dates are now set for this year, from the 5th to the 9th of August in Otjiwarongo.
"If we are talking about the San, we mean all the San communities, all the San tribes, the whole umbrella of the San tribe, Hai||om San, !Khung San, Naro San, Khwe San, Ju|hoansi San, Xoo San and ǂKhao-llaesi San. All the San tribes are included in the San Annual Cultural Festival," emphasised Chief Ananias Soroseb of the Kai !A-Khoen Hai||om San.
Cenored, the Otjiwarongo municipality, Niitembu Investments and the Worthy Purpose Foundation, as well as the police, have come on board in support of the festival.
"Our culture is not known; our children don't know our languages. What must we do so we can be known? Because this is an indigenous culture, this is a very rich culture, so the San people have come together as one, and if I'm talking about the San, San is an umbrella, as my chief mentioned previously," said Delila Guxas Ipinge, Founder of the Annual San Cultural Festival.
Cenored's Corporate Communications and Marketing Practitioner, Charlie Matengu, said they take their role in the promotion of culture seriously.
The organising committee is calling on people to join the bandwagon to make the San Cultural Festival a success.
