A case of culpable homicide and reckless driving has been registered at the Rundu police station.
The incident occurred last night at around 19:30 in the Sauyemwa area near the Hilka Park location on the Rundu-Nkurenkuru main road in the Kavango East Region.
According to Kavango East crime investigations coordinator Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu, the driver of a Nampol Toyota Hilux traveled from west to east and collided with an oxcart that intended to cross from south to north, resulting in the death of the oxcart operator and two oxen and causing extensive damage to both the oxcart and the police vehicle.
The deceased was identified as 43-year-old Ndara Mateus Kasera.
The body was taken to Rundu State Mortuary for postmortem and further police investigations.
The next of kin have been informed.
The driver of the police vehicle is admitted for observation at Rundu Intermediate Hospital.
