The Zambezi Regional Council and the Chobe District Council in Kasane, Botswana, have validated the terms of reference for sub-committees in various areas of cooperation. The councils signed a twinning agreement in July last year to foster cooperation and exchange best practices of governance, urban planning, environmental management, shared riverine resources, culture, and sports.

In order to facilitate the implementation of the twinning agreement, a Joint Coordinating Committee was established to provide overall policy guidance and strategic direction.

Speaking at the opening of the three-day meeting, Zambezi Governor Alufea Sampofu called on the two regional councils to maintain unity of purpose.

In a speech read on his behalf, Zambezi Regional Council Chairperson Matengu Simushi said the success of the agreement lies in the commitment of those involved.

The meeting is an opportunity for the two councils to pursue and reflect on the twinning agreement.
