The government of Zambia has started a process of repatriating its citizens living in the USA without valid immigration status.
In an advisory note from that country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the government states it wants citizens to avoid deportation by returning home in a dignified manner.
The communique is intended for Zambians living in the diaspora and those intending to travel outside the country.
But the particular emphasis is on those travelling and living in the United States.
Citizens have been urged to keep abreast of laws and regulations, strictly adhere to immigration laws and regulations, and adhere to their valid immigration status and conditions.
On voluntary departure, Zambians in the Diaspora without valid immigration status have been strongly urged to consider returning home and avoid the embarrassment of deportation.
The Zambian mission in Washington, DC, has been tasked to facilitate the returns.
