Meatco has suspended its Acting Chief Executive Officer, Patrick Liebenberg, with effect from 14 July 2025, pending an investigation.

Liebenberg also held the position of Executive: Livestock Procurement and Production.

The company’s board communicated the decision in an internal memo dated 15 July 2025.

According to the memo, the suspension will allow for an independent investigation, and the corporation will extend whistleblower protections during the process.

The board has appointed Kingsley Kwenani as acting CEO, with effect from July 15, 2025, until August 31, 2025, or until the Ministry of Finance finalises a secondment as an acting appointment.

The board urged all employees to cooperate fully and to refrain from public commentary.

Liebenberg was appointed Acting CEO on 1 February 2025 following the end of Mwilima Mushokabanji's term as CEO.
