The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) National Structure has completed a report review on unemployment in the country.
President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is expected to present the report at the sidelines of the African Union Heads of State Summit next year.
The report identified skills gaps, lack of experience, gender discrimination, inadequate career guidance, lack of entrepreneurial culture, and financial structure as some of the contributors to unemployment.
"Our head of state will meet with other peers to review the progress report that Namibia will present in terms of what has been achieved in terms of the recommendations that were made on this report in 2019. There are already some positive developments that we are seeing. The pledge to establish the youth fund, the directive around the internships, and the free teacher education that has been announced—those are issues that are in line with the recommendations of the report," explained National Governing Council of the APRM member, Uhuru Dempers.
Members of the National Governing Council of APRM held regional consultations on the report, the last being the |Khomas Region.
"The review reports provide governments with an opportunity to strengthen their governance architecture and enhance service delivery to the citizens. The targeted country review report on new unemployment was undertaken to provide a credible assessment of the problem and potential solutions for redress," said Chairperson of the |Khomas Regional Council, John Moonde
The APRM also concluded the Country Review Report, which looked at economic governance and socioeconomic development.
The African Peer Review Mechanism is a voluntary instrument established by the African Union to self-monitor governance performance among its member states, promoting political stability, economic integration, growth, and sustainable development.
It also serves as a platform for African countries to share experiences, identify governance challenges, and assess capacity-building needs through a peer review process.
