Oshana Governor Hofni Ipinge has commended the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) for fulfilling its mandate through its various platforms in ensuring that people have access to information, including the government's developmental agendas.

Ipinge made the remarks during a stakeholder engagement with the national broadcaster's top management at Oshakati.

The national broadcasters' team comprised Chief of News and Programming Menesia Muinjo, Head of News and Current Affairs Peter Denk, Head of Sport Sacky Shikufa, Head of Radio Suoma Negumbo, Head of Content Hub Glennis Beukes, and regional teams.

The engagement centred around the corporation's plans and explored potential partnerships for disseminating information across the region.

Ipinge explained that the NBC plays a vital role in disseminating information regarding the government's development projects and, in return, gives the populace a chance to hold leaders accountable.

NBC's Chief of News and Programming, Menesia Muinjo, said the corporation aims to engage governors annually to strengthen relations and keep the nation abreast.

The teams also engaged Omusati Governor Immanuel Shikongo, who wants to see the NBC's presence established in the region.

Shikongo also wants Kati FM to consider extending the morning show to accommodate the majority of councillors.

The Chief of News and Programming said though currently, NBC does not have a presence in the Omusati, Ohangwena, Oshikoto, Kavango West, Kunene, and Hardap regions, it is committed to providing coverage in all 14 regions with the help of MICT.

Muinjo believes that in the world of technology, news capturing has become easy.

The team will also engage the Uukwambi and Ongandjera traditional authorities and the Ohangwena and Oshikoto regional governors.
