A Grade 10 learner at Simanya Combined School in the Kavango West Region is in critical condition after allegedly attempting to take his own life Tuesday morning.

Spokesperson for the Namibian Police Force in the region, Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga, confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred at approximately 07:00 when a male student jumped from a water tank tower on the school premises.

Police officers, working alongside school management, immediately responded to the emergency and rushed the critically injured student to Nkurenkuru Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.

Muronga further said the student’s identity has been withheld to protect his privacy during this sensitive time, and police investigations into the matter are ongoing.

In another incident, the lifeless body of a 44-year-old woman, identified as Elizabeth Gideon, was found in a locked room.

Muronga confirmed the incident, saying it occurred on Monday, at an unknown time, at Mururani village in the Kavango West Region.

It is alleged that the deceased consumed pills (unknown) and died in her bed.

Muronga said the deceased had locked herself inside the house, and the police had to break the padlock to discover the body.

The next of kin were informed, and the body was transported to the Rundu State mortuary for an autopsy.
