Centenarian and liberation struggle veteran Hulda Isaaks has died at her home in Gibeon in the Hardap Region, aged 107.
The Witbooi clan's traditional leader, Josephat Witbooi, confirmed the death of Hulda Isaaks.
Born on 29 November 1917, Isaaks lived through two world wars and several pandemics.
Witbooi remembered her as a loving, candid, God-fearing and soft-spoken woman.
In recognition of her dedication, the Missionary Society of the African Methodist Episcopal Church recognised her as an honorary member.
Isaaks joined the Swapo Party in 1976 and was granted veteran status for the liberation struggle in 2014.
According to Witbooi, Isaak's health started to weaken after the reburial of her husband's remains at Gibeon about three years ago.
Her husband died in 1953 at the farm Voightsgrund in the Hardap Region.
"After she viewed the husband's remains, after that moment, I can say that the incident affected her speech. The next day, we realised there was something wrong with her speech. She was not ill; she was not bedridden. She frequently asked her granddaughter to take her outside so she could sit in the sun or shade. Whenever we came to visit her, we found her outside, and we could freely communicate with her," said Witbooi.
Isaaks is survived by two children and grandchildren and will be buried on the 17th of this month.
