The Katutura Old Age Home celebrated the 90th birthday of former President Hifikepunye Pohamba.
Pohamba donated various items as a token of appreciation to the elders for being role models of resilience.
The former president, who was well known for his humble, soft-spoken and unifying leadership style, served two terms after succeeding Founding President Sam Nujoma.
In celebration of his birthday, Pohamba also donated four kettles, two microwaves, a flatscreen television, books and portraits of all five presidents to be displayed in their dining hall.
Pohamba's speech was read on his behalf by Special Assistant, Frans !Gaoseb delivered a speech on his behalf.
"As I look back on my journey from the days of Stryker to independence and through my years of service in government, I remain humbled by the trust and confidence the Namibian people placed in me. My wish is that Namibia continues to grow in peace, unity and prosperity. To the younger generation, treasure this peace, protect it and carry forward the spirit of nationhood with pride."
He further encouraged the elderly to continue caring for one another and embrace the strength that lies in love and unity.
