Namibia has lobbied support from The Bahamas for its candidate, Deputy Inspector-General Major Anna-Marie Nainda, in the race for the Interpol presidency.
The elections are scheduled to take place in November during the 93rd General Assembly in Marrakech, Morocco.
Namibia's Ambassador to the US, Margareth Mensah-Williams, confirmed that President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah sought backing during a meeting with Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Davis on the margins of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The SADC region has endorsed Major-General Nainda, who currently serves as Interpol's Executive Committee Delegate for Africa.
Meanwhile, both President Nandi-Ndaitwah and Prime Minister Davis expressed interest in enhancing bilateral cooperation between their respective countries.
Agriculture and tourism are among the sectors being considered for collaboration, with Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah extending an invitation to Prime Minister Davis to visit Namibia.
